This first bottling had simple taste notes that read "delicate, peaty undertones". Back in the 1970s, we used a wee bit more peat smoke in the drying of the malted barley than we do now, hence that light smokiness.
In 2002, the 1979 Vintage was once again bottled. This second batch came from casks that were not yet mature and ready for bottling in 1994 and had benefited from extra years in cask. The taste notes state "Rich, full aroma, ripe red orange". There were less than 25,000 bottles of this second release which was one of the favourite Vintages of John Sutherland who was Distillery Manager for 5 years until 2007.
